Welcome to the #BrainHeartLab

Advancing the understanding of bidirectional stroke-heart interactions through collaborative cardio-neurology research.

#ABOUT

Brain and Heart in the Focus of Stroke Research

Our group - founded in 2018 with support from the Corona foundation – aims to study the crosstalk between brain and heart in patients with stroke.

We are an integrative research team located at the Center for Stroke Research Berlin and the Department of Neurology with Exp. Neurology at the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany.

We perform highly interdisciplinary research at the interface of neurology and cardiology, clinical epidemiology and cardiovascular imaging.

About our Current
Research Projects

Our projects aim to improve clinical algorithms for the treatment of stroke patients with acute myocardial damage and identify therapeutic targets. We also focus on individual risk prediction with regard to stroke recurrence, cognitive disorders and atrial fibrillation using cardiac biomarkers.

Stroke-Heart Syndrome

Brain and heart interact in a bidirectional way. At the BrainHeartLab, we are particularly interested in the cardiovascular consequences of acute stroke.

A Multimodal Approach to Improve Detection of Atrial Fibrillation after Stroke

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common cause of ischemic stroke. In many cases, it is only detected after stroke during cardiac monitoring or Holter ECG.

Personalized inter-disciplinary stroke care

The management of stroke patients often requires expertise from cardiologists. This includes questions of cardiovascular complications after stroke.

New paper alert!

In a great collaborative work led by Simone Lieschke for the TRISP and EVATRISP collaborators, we provide more data on the controversy how to treat stroke patients with basilar artery occlusion and mild to moderate clinical deficits (NIHSS<10).
